Our Work Ready Programme students have just finished their work experience in the cafe in St. Helena’s Resource Centre.
The students had a great experience and learned a lot about working in a café. Each day, they helped to make scones and served tea and coffee to people attending courses. They also prepared fruit platters, made sandwiches, and got the kitchen ready each morning. At the end of the day, they cleaned up the canteen.
Students also learned about food safety and hygiene, which are very important in this type of work.
The group would like to say a big thank you to Debbie and all the staff in St. Helena’s for their support and for giving them this opportunity. This work experience helped students put their classroom learning into practice.
They would also like to thank their tutor, Grace, for her support and hard work throughout the year.
The Work Ready Programme is a course that was designed as a progression route for level 2 students who are interested in gaining skills and knowledge in specific areas that will lead them to paid employment. Other variations of the work ready programme include working in a hotel, working in a restaurant, working in retail, and working in a hairdressing salon.
