This course gives you an understanding of society, how it works, and your role in it—as an individual, a family member, and a part of a community.  

 During this course you will: 

  • Explore key ideas in sociology, including culture, social roles, and how people are shaped by the world around them. 
  • Discuss important topics like social class, gender, and race.  
  • Look at how people in society are divided into different categories (social stratification) and how people move within it (social mobility).
  • Gain basic research skills—participate in focus groups, do interviews, and gather information.
